JUNE CONFERENCE 2010

 Moving Forward with 3.0

 Thursday, June 24, 2010

Ashlar Village, Wallingford, Connecticut

Growth and change is inevitable.  Each passing moment is another chance to turn it all around and learn and grow.  Join us for our 30th Anniversary June Conference Moving Forward.  We will begin the day with a presentation on the new MDS 3.0 with nationally renowned speaker Sharon Nichols, CTRS.  In the afternoon you will have a choice of 3 breakout sessions which will be repeated.  The sessions are:

         · Reminiscing For All Levels by Sharon Louchen, CTRS, TRD

         · Physical Activities "Add Years to your Life and Life to your Years" ~ Brian Hickey, TRD

         · Been There Done That!” ~ A Question and Answer Session by a panel of very experienced TRD’s Marion Pierce, TRD, Stacey Estrella, CTRS, TRD, Angelina Field, CTRS, TRD, Sharon Nichols, CTRS and Kimberly Cassia, TRD, ACC.

This 5 hour program is for all disciplines: Nurses, C.N.A.’s, Social Workers, Administrators, MDS Coordinators & TRD’s discounts for multiple attendees from one facility

What you will learn…

Preparing for the MDS 3.0 ~ Sharon Nichols, CTRS will explore the MDS 3.0 and the implications for Therapeutic Recreation in Long Term Care Facilities.  The Workshop will also outline some key training needs in order to successfully implement the MDS 3.0.  Following her session participants will be able to describe the rationale for changes in the MDS 3.0; to identify actions needed for MDS 3.0 implementation and will be able to explain how the MDS 3.0 contributed to improved quality of life for the residents.

Reminiscing For All Levels ~ Sharon Louchen, CTRS, TRD will review new ideas to promote memories and recall events in residents lives.  Reminiscing is something everyone can do regardless of functioning level.  Handouts will reflect new creative options for sparking long term memories to use in groups.  By completion of this session participants will be able to adapt each reminiscing program offered to resident / client level of skill; learn the Resident Reminiscing Profile and will be able to offer new, creative programs to facility residents.

Physical Activities "Add Years to your Life and Life to your Years" ~ Brian Hickey, TRD ~ No description necessary this is a hands on, movement and motion session for those working with short term, long term and assisted living facilities, young and old.  In this session the participant will review activities and protocols; learn the how and why physical activities are important and find out where to purchase materials.

“Been There Done That!” ~ A Question and Answer Session by a panel of very experienced TRD’s from the CATRD board of directors will facilitate an open forum where you can ask questions and get advice about issues that are challenging you in your work environment.  The panel consists of professionals in the field, some who are educators others consultants, who collectively have more than 100 years of experience working with all populations in Therapeutic Recreation.  So bring your questions on index cards and see if collectively we can brainstorm to find real solutions that will make your job less stressful and effect better outcomes.  In this session we will be offering tried and tested solutions to the difficulties of providing quality programs in the Therapeutic Recreation setting; provide the opportunity for TRD’s to learn methods and approaches guaranteed to make programming easier; will expose new TRD’s to pitfalls and snags and prevent frustration by eliminating approaches that don’t work and will offer real solutions to everyday difficulties faced by TRD’s.
